7 years?!?

Has it really been 7+ years since I posted on this blog....wow, to say that I didn't stick to my healthy lifestyle would be true.  I've continued exercising, running races, and calorie counting...sometimes.

Going to grad school (2013-2015), having a daughter (2015-present) has not helped my commitment to fitness.  But as of today 4/30/2018, I completed my 11th half marathon and I'm starting on the Ketogenic diet.

The diet is why I wanted to post again, to have an accurate tracking of how I feel and how this has worked.  We failed on the food prep for the week thanks to the half marathon, but still got our first day of keto foods packed for work.

Eggs, Cheese, olives, Avocado, Tuna Salad, Spinach Salad with cheese, tomatoes ham, and oil/vinegar dressing....If I eat all of it, that's 1750 calories and that's my goal for the day - but I'll still need to eat dinner.

I plan on cutting back on the mayo in the tuna salad, switching from Balsamic Vinegar to a different one once this bottle is done, and I dont know that I'll eat everything I brought anyways.   My macros seem to be tracking on target, although I'm at 23 carbs on the day and wanted to stay under 20.  The vinegar switch should help with that.  And the ham I'm currently using is cured in sugar, which doesn't help either.

Also trying to intermittently fast while doing this.  I started with a 14 hour fast, and I'm gonna try and hold that for the week.  Gonna do weight and measurements tonight so I have something to go off of too.

Avoiding the Heat

This weeks theme is avoiding the heat.  We're gonna work on projects in doors, try to get our runs in during the wee morning hours or the late evening hours, and watch a lot of Lost.  We started plowing through it a year ago, got through season 1 and then got busy.  This past week we finished season 2 and got about halfway through season 3.  My guess is we'll be through season 4 by the end of the week.  Enjoying it very much so far.

The rest of the to-do list this week is really light so we should be able to relax in the air conditioning during a week that is supposed to see heat indexes of 110 or worse.

Have a good week and stay cool.

Coasting Along

We finished up painting and changing out the hardware in the house!!!   We had some friends over Thursday night for a BBQ after the Bix @ 6 practice run, and more friends over on Saturday to run the 4 mile night race in Eldridge.  Overall it was a very relaxing week and it feels great to have our projects completed.

Well almost completed....  We still need to pick a color for the 2nd floor hallway, but we are going to hire someone to paint it since the stairwell wall is 20 feet high.  The rest of the summer is going to be devoted to marathon training, some bike riding, the occasional yard work and few fun trips.

We're having a BBQ on July 30th for RAGBRAI/Bix since they are both happening in Davenport on the same day.  We're heading to CR Kernels baseball game with the fantasy baseball leagues on a Saturday in August.  We have a couple of family reunions to attend.  My siblings are planning a family trip to St. Louis in August, and then we are going to makeup or canceled skydiving trip and do another sprint triathlon at Hickory Grove Park, and the Iowa Hawkeye football season will be here.  This will be our lightest summer ever for travel/events.

Have a great week everyone!

Copper Creek Tri 2011

Saturday was Lisa's birthday and we were supposed to go skydiving, but Mother Nature had other plans.  The rain and wind kept all of us from jumping except Eric and Kendra.  They reported that skydiving in rain is no fun and Eric can attest that a gust of wind that blows your landing to the ditch next to the highway is kinda nerve wracking.

Saturday afternoon we hit Spaghetti Works for a late lunch to carb load in anticipation for Sunday's main event.  After lunch we shaved our heads, shaved down to mustaches and the No Train, Bald, Mustache Tri was on.  Sunday morning the water was cool but no too bad, the bike course had a head wind going out and a tail wind coming back, and the run seemed hillier than last year.

I finished 11 min slower than last year, I was slower in all 3 events and even slower in my transitions, but that's what you get when you don't train at all.  It was a fun day, Eric beat me by 6 min and I finished in front of Kendra.  We're all planning on doing the Hickory Grove Triathlon in August, and we've talked Kendra's sister and father into doing it along with the return of Cassie!   We're hoping to make up the skydiving trip that weekend as well, and if it all works out we've convinced Lisa's mom to jump with us!

Now the marathon training begins in earnest while we try and finish the painting project.  Front Room and Bedroom are on the schedule for painting this week along with pressure washing and resealing/staining the deck.  Have a great week everyone.

Near Death Experiences

This week is the week of Near Death Experiences, #1) Getting electrocuted installing the new microwave in the kitchen, #2) Breaking the blade off the jigsaw, while installing the new microwave, sending the blade flying across the room, #3) I'm going skydiving on Saturday afternoon (enough said), #4) Doing the Copper Creek Tri on Sunday, however it has been since Mother's Day that I've gotten a good workout in, so I could drown, wreck my bike, or just die from exhaustion on Sunday.  I have a feeling a week from now I'll just be happy to be alive.

On top of all that we are painting the dining room and the upstairs hallway this week, finishing the install on the microwave, changing out all the interior and exterior light fixtures along with the fan in the kitchen, the front door and the locks on the front and garage door, plus the doorbell, and the light fixtures on the 2 fans upstairs.  We actually got a helluva deal on the light fixtures at BBC lighting in Milwaukee this past weekend.  Its gonna be a busy and productive week, if everything goes as planned we should be done painting and getting rid of the brass in the house by July 17th.

Have a great week!

Holy Hotness Batman

Its been 2 weeks since an update and its been a whirlwind of activity.  We drove 1300 miles over five days and 25 hours to see my sister graduate, welcome her and Bibs to their new house, see Lisa's sister married and run a ton of errands.

Our gutters are now clear of debris, our yard is mowed, trimmed, and edged.  Our sticks have been bundled and put out for pickup.  We bought a new front door that is almost done being painted and should be installed by this weekend.  We also have chosen more paint colors so if everything goes according to plan, by mid July the entire house should be a new paint color (Well except for the kitchen, because the cabinets are causing us a quandry)

We're home this weekend and then a trip to Milwaukee for Father's day.  The last weekend in June is our trip to Brooklyn Iowa to go skydiving, followed by the Copper Creek Triathlon on Sunday.  After that we should be home the rest of the summer working on flower beds, paint projects, resealing the deck, and any other little things that come up.

Have a great week

The End of the World as We Know It

Well the rapture came and went, or didn't come at all, still not sure on the ruling of this one, but we survived our first travel weekend in quite awhile.  We got to see the niece and nephew play little league, we had a great time at JJ and Melissa's wedding, and we got all our weekly chores in despite all the travel.

Our workouts were lacking a little bit last week, and will be lacking again this week.  We'll fit in what we can, when we can, then back to the grind after Memorial Day.  Not much else to report, we posted pictures of the new paint on Facebook last night.  Can't wait for Thursday when we get to see family in Des Moines for Cassie's graduation, and Saturday for Mike and Sara's wedding in Toledo, OH.

Have a great week.
