First Race

This week saw a return to the treadmill thanks to Mother Nature but only for 1 run.  I was able to run outside in the snow on Saturday, and somehow Monday's snow never materialized.  Sunday was the first race of the year:  The Chili Chase is a 4 mile run that goes right past our house.   I ran a 36:09, about what I expected but not what I wanted.  The course was a nice course only 1 hill was treacherous with packed snow and ice.  The end of the race gave us beer, water, beef burgers, chili, cookies, and bananas.  The top 40 males and females got prizes and since the field was only 360 people that's 25% that ended up with something.  Needless to say I wasn't in the top 40.

This week is more of the same, I counted yesterday's race as today's workout, and I've got runs on Wed, Thursday, and Saturday.  I leave Friday night to head to Evanston, IL for the B1G TEN wrestling championships.  I'll have to get my 6 miles in on Friday night or early Saturday morning.   On top of that I need to weigh out in the biggest loser competition at the gym. A year ago I won this contest, not so much this year.  I still will be down pounds and body fat % but not enough to win, and probably not enough to get a prize.  Oh well.

March is a very busy month for us.  During the week we have our normal routine, I travel for Wrestling this weekend, to the Twin Cities for a boys trip the weekend of St. Paddy's day, we have the H2H and Roto drafts the last weekend, and I'm sure the only open weekend will fill up with chores around the house.  Have a great week everyone.

Feb Doldrums

The last week was just one of those weeks.  I got to run all 4 of the scheduled runs out doors which was awesome.  However it looks like today will be back to the treadmill.  At least its only 3 miles.  My weight seems to be stuck between 200 and 205, the first month saw my body shape change as I was losing inches but not pounds.  Hopefully during this 2nd month of training the same thing will happen, but I'm not confident.  I feel like I've controlled my portions much better than I was doing in the fall, plus I'm working out more so I should be seeing results but I'm not yet.   I'm not going to get frustrated until the end of April.  I originally planned this as a 4 month ordeal and we're only 6 weeks in.

The Iowa High School state wrestling tournament was this past weekend.  SE Polk placed 4th as a team with 2 champs, 2 third place, 1 fifth, 1 sixth, and 1 seventh.  They wrestle Urbandale on Tuesday nigh for State Team Duals.  Congratulations to my brother(asst. coach), all the wrestlers and the other coaches.

This coming Sunday is the Chili Chase 4 mile run.  It will be my first competition since the Run with Carl 5k last September.  Should be a good time, a little cold, but still fun.  Cassie, Karl, and I will all be participating.

Everyone have a good week.

No more hamster wheels

Well the first week of Half training is in the books.  All the runs felt good, I only forgot my ipod on 1 day and it was a short run(3 miles).  On Friday Lisa and I went and acquired so Underarmour gear so that we could run outside even as the temperatures start warming up.  Plus we have a 4 mile race on Sunday Feb. 27th so we wanted to make sure we'd be warm for that.

I did my first outdoor run on Saturday.  It was a 5 mile jaunt on the bike path.  It wasn't too slippery or soggy and I averaged 8 minute miles for the run.  I do wish the bathrooms at the city parks were unlocked though, it was a very uncomfortable last 3/4 mile.

This week is a 3 mile, 5 mile, 3 mile, 6 mile run.  We're out of town to Milwaukee this weekend so the 6 miler will be run up there, it will be a nice change of scenery.

Tonight is Valentine's day dinner, Lisa loves breakfast for dinner so I'm making: French Toast, Pancakes, Sausage, Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, and Biscuits and Gravy for dinner.  Hope everyone is hungry.  I'm also surprising her with a bouquet of Tulips, chocolates, and spa oils to be delivered to her work, Thanks Proflowers.com.  The rest of this month should be pretty laid back, the to-do list is very short so lots of time to veg out and catch up on some movies.

Everyone have a great week.

One Month In

So I'm 1 month into this years journey.  It hasn't been nearly as intense as a year ago.  I'm eating more freely, missing workouts more often, etc....  But I'm more at peace with it than I would have been a year ago.  The numbers on the scale are coming down, slowly, but still coming down.  Monday I start my half marathon training.  I'm curious to see what my measurements have done this month, I'm not expecting too much change.

The numbers changed more than I expected them too.  Some of that could be due to the inaccuracies of the person measuring, you'll notice Shoulders changed dramatically not because I'm suddenly ripped, but because Lisa had no idea how she measured me initially, so this measurement will be the new initial.
